Italian wine industry is one of the most varied and interesting in the world. The Etruscans, who created one of the earliest civilizations within the Italic peninsula, were really masters in wine production. The Greeks, who established themselves in the Southern parts of Italy, gave to this country the name of "Enotria", which means "the land of wines". During thousands of years wine has been the natural drink during a meal and in some cases it substituted it, but only recently, innovation and experimentation have brought a varied range of fantastic wines to the market. Grapes and wines produced in Italy are so numerous that it is easy to lose one's way among this production. Generally speaking we can say that red wines are predominant on the white ones, except on the North East.
